Mediterranean Desert: Dialogues with Nature à l’Opéra national de Grèce
La billetterie est ouverte pour le récital que donnera Stéphanos Thomopoulos le 7 novembre 2026, sur la Scène alternative de l’Opéra national de Grèce à Athènes. Ce concert présentera sur scène son nouveau disque Désert méditerranéen, consacré à la musique pour piano de Giorgos Koumendakis et paru chez KAIROS.
Au cœur du programme figurent plusieurs pièces du cycle Désert méditerranéen. Inspirées par la faune et la flore de la région, elles composent un singulier bestiaire musical peuplé d’oiseaux, de poissons, d’insectes et de plantes. Chaque créature y acquiert un rythme, un caractère et une manière propre de se mouvoir et d’habiter le paysage méditerranéen.
Autour de l’œuvre de Koumendakis, le programme établit des correspondances avec plusieurs époques de l’histoire du piano. Les sonates de Domenico Scarlatti font entendre la clarté de l’écriture et l’énergie rythmique du monde méditerranéen. Dans La Cathédrale engloutie, Debussy fait progressivement surgir des profondeurs la vision d’un monument submergé. Avec Ondine, Ravel explore à son tour le miroitement, la fluidité et les mouvements de l’eau, tout en donnant vie à une créature fantastique. Ces deux œuvres prolongent ainsi la dimension aquatique du cycle de Koumendakis et son attention aux êtres qui peuplent la Méditerranée.
Enfin, Speech of Clouds de Gérard Pesson introduit un autre élément naturel : l’air. Par son écriture aérienne et mobile, évoquant la circulation des nuages et le mouvement du vent, l’œuvre s’intègre naturellement à ce dialogue entre le piano, les paysages et les éléments.

Mediterranean Desert : Dialogues with Nature at the Greek National Opera
Tickets are now on sale for Stéphanos Thomopoulos’ recital on 7 November 2026 at the Greek National Opera’s Alternative Stage in Athens. The concert will present his new album Désert méditerranéen, devoted to the piano music of Giorgos Koumendakis and released by KAIROS.
At the heart of the programme are several pieces from the Mediterranean Desert cycle. Inspired by the region’s flora and fauna, they form a singular musical bestiary populated by birds, fish, insects and plants. Each creature acquires its own rhythm, character and distinctive way of moving through and inhabiting the Mediterranean landscape.
The programme places Koumendakis’ music in dialogue with several periods of the piano repertoire. Domenico Scarlatti’s sonatas bring out the clarity of writing and rhythmic energy of the Mediterranean world. In La Cathédrale engloutie, Debussy gradually conjures from the depths the vision of a submerged monument. With Ondine, Ravel explores the shimmering reflections, fluidity and movement of water while bringing a mythical creature to life. These two works extend the aquatic dimension of Koumendakis’ cycle and its attention to the beings that inhabit the Mediterranean.
Finally, Gérard Pesson’s Speech of Clouds introduces another natural element: air. Its light, mobile writing evokes drifting clouds and the movement of the wind, fitting naturally into this dialogue between the piano, landscapes and the elements.
